While studying Kant, I've come to realize that the idea of morality isn't a tangible one. It's more about our society impressing their ideas on us. Our environment, our family, our friends, all contribute to what we think our morality is. If we were living in a different place, or raised in a different place, our morality would be different. Thus, morality is an opinion, not something that we are born with.
Laws are not morality. They are a societal way of controlling people. Just because we should not kill does not mean that we don't. Some people will break that law. Some people "think" about killing another person, but the law prevents them from doing so. Yes, there will be people who will say, "I would never kill anyone." But, I disagree. If they were placed in a situation, I bet they would. We judge prostitution, crime, murder, parental skills, etc...based on how society believes we should. Yes, that can be different from person to person, but still, it is based on environmental development.
So, if we use our own morals as a guide, maybe we need to be aware that not everyone's morals will be like ours. This means that we could be wrong in how we view the world. Maybe by knowing this, we will become more enlightened and accepting of other people's cutlures.
